Yesterday is a distant land from which we have departed and
tomorrow is a land to which we have yet to arrive. In the now,
the today, can we enjoy the voyage and all that there is to see
as we travel between then and now. We carry our memories, like
photographs or souvenirs and if they weigh us down then they must
be discarded. It may be regretful but we should allow ourselves
the freedom to enjoy the journey without the distraction or
burden of all that we have seen before. Those memories that
matter will not weigh a great deal on our minds; they will
perhaps have contained some valuable insight; they will perhaps
have brought us a moment of great sadness but yet with the
examination of what lies within them, we will find that all that
they have given us is of value; and in that value comes the
support for the burden so that we do not find ourselves
encumbered and delayed on our travels.
There are many routes between yesterday and tomorrow; today is
just one of them; another is yet to come. Sometimes the path may
seem a little longer than it was before; sometimes a little
shorter. Yet the best of journeys is taken with varying lengths
between breaks in passage; for sometimes there is more to learn
from taking a rest and enjoying the view than there is in rushing
boldly onwards, eager to take the next step towards what is to
come. Often by taking a break and absorbing all that there is in
that moment, we can learn more that will aid us on the next leg
of our journey.
The key to any voyage, any sort of travel, is the enjoyment and
the wonder that comes with the mystery of what has yet to be
discovered. All that is around us is for our benefit; all that we
need is to hand. We are never lonely travellers for we have
travelling companions in all that we see, but also all that we do
not see. Sometimes by necessity we have quietness and solitude,
but it is a transient thing; companionship and guidance are never
far away. They are but a glance or a call away; whether we are
fully aware of them nearby or not.
So in sailing to the distant land of tomorrow, we let go of
yesterday and its shores ebb from sight in the ocean of our
lives.
til we meet again
