It is often assumed that when a person returns to us in spirit that the negative aspects of the personality are erased and that the person, however they may have appeared in life, automatically becomes that which you would define as 'saintly' and nothing but good. This is simply not the case. It is not the case by necessity. To maintain and retain some of the Earthly persona is necessary; that way they may be more readily accepted and identified should they get the opportunity to communicate (through a medium or otherwise) with those that they have left behind. Another reason is that progression must, by the nature of it, be slow. To become nothing but good and for negative aspects of the persona to be erased the instant you return to spirit would have the result that one would progress too rapidly. The necessary adaptation and changes could not be made and the lessons essential in slow progression would not be learned. When a soul - or an aspect of a soul - returns to spirit, it must take some time to re-acclimatise to its home and to the other beings around it for although the other members of the soul group will always have been linked by unbreakable bond, the person while on Earth may never have been aware of their unique connection or to their true home in spirit. If the person was spiritually aware in any respect, this adjustment period will be easier and therefore shorter. Yet the length of time necessary to adapt cannot be defined, as time no longer exists when a being becomes one with the light and discarnate once more. Time is, after all, merely an Earthly perception and measurement; it is merely an illusion. Once you return home, time is of little importance. Some beings may progress in this way very slowly and often may only stay on the lower levels for a fleeting moment. All who return to spirit will remain on plains fitting to their spiritual state at that time and with ready and easy access to those they have left behind. After all, it is one small part of the greater being and so progress spiritually will not be inhibited while this process is occurring. The person who has returned to spirit will, therefore, retain characteristics recognisable to those on Earth and yet will also gain the clarity of wisdom without the impediment of Earthly emotions. Any changes will be gradual and at a pace for the individual.

'Til we meet again...
