When a medium or channel strives to make a connection with the world of spirit, it is vital that it is done with the very best of intentions therefore it is vital that the medium steps back, putting the ego completely to one side for the duration of the connection. In essence, the medium or channel should be as though they do not care; that the connection is continuing without the assistance or alternatively, the interference, of the medium. The more the medium manages to step back mentally from the communication whether a trance-state or altered state occurs or not the purer the energy, the clearer the communication and the more accurate the message. Time should be spent daily, conversing with your helpers, guides and teachers in spirit, but this should not be overdone, for spiritual work should be treated as one would approach exercise of the physical body a little is better than too much, but the right balance will lead to a trim and healthy form. So it is with the link between the medium and the spirit world as with a muscle in the physical body built up gradually, so the connection will build until it is strong. Once that strength is achieved, the medium should not lapse into complacency for again, as with a muscle, it must be continually exercised to retain its strength and tone. Patience is the key for it is vital that this is built up gradually. There should be no attempt at a quick fix or shortcut, for the path to working in a pure way with spirit so that accuracy and quality are achieve is by necessity a long and uphill one. It allows time to travel slowly, to absorb properly all that should be learnt. It is as though we are learning another language and this must be done gradually for it all to make sense in both directions; for just as those on the earth plane must learn to communicate with us, so we must learn to communicate in the most effective way possible. Since we are all individuals and so have our own workable methods, this means that the method of communication must be constantly adapted from both sides in order for it to be most effective. There are no hard and fast rules to follow and indeed, many mediums in training will be stifled early on by the opinions and teachings of others if they let it be so. It is most important that a medium comes to their own way of working, adapting and communicating from an early stage in their development and it is ideal when a medium has merely had gentle guidance from those who have gone before (whether a physical teacher or a spirit guide or helper), rather than more rigid and formal disciplines, for that is when the ability will be most pure. It is vital, however, that guidance is sought, particularly on the subject of protection, since even with the strongest spiritual connections, the teaching must come from those in the physical who understand the pitfalls and who can best advise from a mental point of view for protection must be mainly the mediums responsibility and half of that must be done mentally and physically ensuring that the physical body is in proper shape for the work as much as the spiritual and mental self. Prevention is most important when considering protection. If preventative steps have been taken then the protection will follow almost as if by itself. Lessons concerning protection are best given on a like-minded basis; the medium will associate in such things more easily with another physical being and if the lessons are given purely by a guide or helper in spirit the temptation may be for the medium to rely heavily on that guide or helper to provide all of the protection needed. In fact, we provide the protection of your spiritual self and shield you as if on one side. It is your responsibility to shield yourself from your side the physical side, if you will. Thus you will have all-round protection. It is in the strength of this protection that the most effective build-up of the pure energy that is needed for quality communication can be reached. It could, perhaps, be compared to a chrysalis it protects completely and surrounds, allowing for growth, until ultimately the butterfly emerges. The butterfly in this case is the pure, loving energy created by developing and building gradually towards spiritual connections that will be beautiful and meaningful. All are capable of this. How many will have the patience? In a fast-paced world, the human race expects instant results. Yet with spiritual work it is necessary to take one step at a time and it is important that the journey is relished and enjoyed. After all, you would not travel around the world, visiting the many wonderful and vibrant places available to you, whilst wearing a blindfold, or only stopping for a few minutes only to rush on, absorbing nothing. Yet this is exactly what so many do on their paths there are many wonderful and vibrant places along the spiritual pathway each intended and designed to nurture, teach and aid growth yet they are given a fleeting visit or cursory glance at best. All want to be the best, but also the fastest. Yet the best are those who take their time. Best should not be a matter of the ego. When one has taken the proper time to grow, develop and learn spiritually as one should, best and first cease to matter, yet the quality is the best, though you would no longer be conscious of it just knowing peace and contentment and pure love. It is thus that the medium can reach the euphoric and carefree condition necessary for proper and complete communication and connection to spirit.
